An Ode to Typography

This project dives into how typography can be both expressive and functional, exploring the relationship between material, letterform, and visual language. It shows a range of practical applications and more artistic experiments, showing how the same letter can take on a completely different feeling depending on what it's made from.

The process involved hands-on work across four different mediums, each bringing its own set of challenges. Letterpress opened up possibilities for multi-layered printing and historical significance. Risograph printing let me play with translucency and texture in ways digital tools can't replicate. Digital composition, on the other hand, gave me precise control over form and layout. Working with cast light/shadow meant studying how colored lights interact with each other and objects to create unique effects.

The final deliverables include a full book with spreads and a cover design, plus a promotional poster for the show. Altogether, this collection is really a celebration of typography itself, and it's also a record of the process behind it: the experimentation, the trial and error, and the effort to make material, form, and language feel genuinely visible through design.
