From A to B (Africa to Bauhaus) by Kathleen Meaney
From A to B (Africa to Bauhaus) is an editorial design project exploring the visual dialogue between two influential art movements. The project began with research into the aesthetics, principles, and cultural contexts of both movements, identifying areas of conceptual and visual overlap. This research informed imagery and typographic treatments to create a meaningful design strategy.
Imagery was used thoughtfully to bridge the two styles, highlighting shared design principles and cultural influences while drawing connections between historical and contemporary contexts. Different layouts were developed to emphasize varying aspects of the project: one layout focuses on strong, expressive visuals, another prioritizes typography for a text-driven, conceptual approach, and a third combines both strategies to achieve balance and visual harmony.
Throughout the design process, each decision, ranging from composition to hierarchy, color, and imagery was considered to communicate the richness, complexity, and interplay of these cultural and artistic movements. The final editorial design delivers a visually compelling and intellectually engaging exploration that honors the dialogue between African art to the Bauhaus movement.
