From A to B (Africa to Bauhaus) by Kathleen Meaney
From A to B (Africa to Bauhaus) is an editorial design project built around a simple but deep question: what happens when you put two influential art movements in conversation with each other? The work started with research into the aesthetics, principles, and cultural roots of both African art and the Bauhaus movement, looking for where they genuinely overlap, both visually and conceptually. That research shaped the imagery and typography throughout, giving the whole project a clear point of view instead of just pairing two styles side by side.
Imagery does a lot of the heavy lifting here, drawing out shared design principles and cultural threads that connect the historical to the contemporary. The layouts take a few different approaches to explore this: one leans on bold, expressive visuals, another is more typography-driven and conceptual, and a third blends both to find a kind of visual balance between the two.
Every choice along the way, from composition to hierarchy to color to imagery, was made to reflect just how layered and interconnected these two movements really are. The final result is an editorial piece that's as intellectually engaging as it is visually striking, one that treats the dialogue between African art and Bauhaus with the depth and respect it deserves.
