Borrow A Buddy is a community pop-up event designed to close the gap between caring about animal welfare and actually doing something about it. The project began with surveys and interviews, over 40 responses, that revealed the real barriers: people weren't against fostering, they just didn't understand what it involved or how it might fit into their lives. That insight led to an in-person event in partnership with the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina, where people could meet real dogs, ask questions, and learn about fostering in a low-pressure, welcoming setting.

The visual system reinforced that same friendly, approachable energy: bright colors to draw people in without overwhelming them, rounded shapes and soft edges, and playful illustrations that gave the event some personality. Framing elements were used throughout too, a subtle nod to the idea of "home," which is really what foster animals need most.

The event delivered real results. Foot traffic stayed strong throughout, and the Humane Society reported 15 to 20 new volunteer sign-ups, with about half specifically interested in fostering, a clear shift from passive interest to actual action. More than anything, this project reinforced how design can genuinely shift perception and behavior, turning hesitation into participation and helping build stronger connections between shelters and the communities around them.
